Fishermen catch a 90-kilogram stingray in Paraguay River waters

A group of recreational fishermen from Alto Paraná had an unforgettable outing on the Paraguay River after catching a stingray weighing about 90 kilograms.

The fishermen traveled to Posadas del Tebicuary, in the Mburica area of Tacuaras district, during a few days of rest. Accompanied by a local guide familiar with the best fishing spots, they continued along the river to the Las Hermanas stream.

After several hours of waiting, they landed the large ray. Local guides had to help carry the heavy catch from the water to the shore.

The catch delighted the fishermen, who had come to Ñeembucú not only in search of large specimens but also for the calm natural setting offered by the department's rivers and streams. Freshwater rays live in the major rivers of the Paraguay and Paraná basins, and large specimens are one of the attractions for recreational anglers in the region.

Ñeembucú is surrounded by the Paraguay, Paraná and Tebicuary rivers and includes numerous streams and wetlands, including the Ñeembucú, Yacaré, Montuoso and Las Hermanas.
