Fishing boat fire in Ca Mau causes estimated damage of 3 billion dong

A 23.5-meter fishing boat caught fire while moored near homes in Song Doc, Ca Mau, but border guards and residents stopped the flames from spreading.

The fire broke out at about noon on September 3 aboard the CM-92869-TS, owned by 57-year-old Nguyen Thanh Tuan. The boat operates with a purse seine and was anchored close to houses when the blaze began.

Major Huynh Van Nho and 20 personnel from the Song Doc Border Guard Station quickly reached the scene and joined local residents in fighting the fire. Because the boat was near both a residential area and other fishing vessels, crews worked to contain the flames before they could spread.

The fire was completely extinguished at about 1 p.m. Nearby boats and surrounding homes were kept safe. An initial investigation indicated that an electrical short circuit in the cabin caused the blaze.

The fire destroyed the cabin and damaged scanning equipment, communications equipment and fish-finding machinery. The owner put the initial losses at more than 3 billion dong. No one was injured or killed.
