Fito Páez joins protests against land foreignization in Argentina

Argentine rock star Fito Páez has publicly joined the growing protests against a government proposal that critics decry as the "foreignization" of land. Páez shared a video from a demonstration in San Carlos de Bariloche, where he voiced his opposition to the bill.

"Argentina is not for sale, man. Is it that hard to understand?" Páez stated in the video, posted to his social media accounts. He was seen wearing a jacket and surrounded by fellow protesters. Earlier, he had urged his followers to join the march, emphasizing that the Patagonian region "is ours" and would not be sold.

Páez's public stance aligns him with a notable group of Argentine celebrities, including Tini Stoessel, Emilia Mernes, and L-Gante, as well as national football player Lisandro Martínez, who have all spoken out against the government's initiative.

The significant public pressure, amplified by allied political blocs, played a crucial role. Facing this widespread opposition, the government ultimately relented and removed the controversial clause regarding the foreign ownership of land from the broader bill on the inviolability of private property. The bill's discussion was ongoing in the Senate.
