Five dead in Paraguay River barge explosion; company cooperates with probe

A tragic accident on the Paraguay River has claimed the lives of five workers following a devastating explosion on a barge. L.P.G. Emprendimientos S.A., the vessel's owner, issued a statement expressing profound sorrow and solidarity with the families of the deceased.

The explosion occurred Saturday morning at a company mooring in Zanja H, on the Paraguay River, near Asunción. The blast happened at 10:56 a.m. while maintenance work was underway on the barge. Five workers died instantly, and a sixth was rescued and taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

L.P.G. Emprendimientos S.A. stated that it has activated all its internal protocols and is fully cooperating with the authorities. The company's technical team is collaborating with experts from the General Naval Prefecture, the Volunteer Fire Department, and the Prosecutor's Office to investigate the cause of the incident. The focus is on determining what led to the gas accumulation or the triggering factor for the fire.
