Five died in Kano rainstorm – KASEMA

Kano State Emergency Management Agency (KASEMA) has confirmed that five people died as a result of a severe rainstorm that struck Bichi Local Government Area last week. The agency's Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, provided the updated figure in a telephone interview, clarifying that earlier media reports of eight fatalities were inaccurate.

Five persons lost their lives in Bichi as a result of the rainstorm, not eight as erroneously reported by some media outlets.

KUBARACHI stated that KASEMA personnel visited the affected area to assess the damage. During this assessment, they were able to ascertain the precise number of casualties and the extent of destruction to houses and properties. The rainstorm, which occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, caused damage estimated to be worth millions of naira.

A comprehensive report detailing the incident has been compiled and submitted to the state government. KASEMA is now awaiting the allocation of relief materials, which will be distributed to those impacted by the disaster. The agency assured that the process of providing assistance to the victims would proceed as usual once the relief supplies are received.

In response to the devastation, the Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state government to expedite the provision of relief materials to alleviate the suffering of those affected. This call was made following the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Lawan Shehu, the member representing Bichi Constituency.
