Five Lithuanians Fail to Qualify on Opening Day of European Swimming Championships

The European Aquatics Championships began with disappointment for Lithuania, as five swimmers were eliminated in the qualification rounds on August 10.

In the 100m freestyle, four Lithuanian women competed, but none advanced. Ieva Jurkūnaitė recorded the team's best performance, clocking 55.18 seconds for 27th place. Sylvia Statkevičius finished 33rd (55.44s), Barbora Mileišytė was 45th (56.66s), and Ieva Visockaitė placed 50th (57.34s).

Tajus Juška also failed to qualify in the 50m butterfly, finishing 55th with a time of 24.36 seconds. Several other Lithuanian swimmers are scheduled to compete later in the day and throughout the week.

The Lithuanian team at the championships features a strong contingent of 19 swimmers, including seven Olympians. At the previous European Championships in Belgrade in 2024, the Lithuanian team secured medals of all colors, highlighting their potential for success.
