Five local journalists attacked twice in Sharsha, Jashore

Local journalists in Sharsha upazila, Jashore, faced two assaults within a 24-hour period, sparking protests and demands for justice. The first attack occurred Sunday afternoon while five reporters were covering an event at Buruj Bagan Pilot Girls' High School. The victims, identified as Atiquzzaman Rumi, Alamgir Hossain, Sahabuddin Ahmed, Anisur Rahman, and Rahat Hossain, sustained injuries, with Sahabuddin requiring treatment for severe bleeding.

Following the initial assault, the journalists filed a general diary at Sharsha Police Station that night. The situation escalated when, after lodging the case, they were attacked again the following night by a group allegedly led by Mamunur Rashid, one of the individuals named in the case. This second attack occurred as the journalists were returning home.

In response to the alleged violence, journalists from various press clubs organized a human chain and rally in front of Benapole Customs House. During the rally, speakers, including Alamgir Hossain, president of the Sharsha Upazila Press Club, demanded the swift arrest of the identified attackers. The victims named Mamunur Rashid, Mehedi Hasan Joni, and Kamal Hossain as perpetrators, with the case filed against five individuals. The journalists' leaders condemned the snatching of mobile phones during professional duties and called for decisive administrative action.
