Five Roads Through Phu Tho Racecourse Nearing Completion in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City is on the verge of completing a significant urban transformation project at the site of the former Phu Tho racecourse. Five new roads, part of a VND 200 billion (approximately $8 million USD) infrastructure development, are in their final stages of construction and are slated to open before June 30th.

After lying dormant for over 15 years, the Phu Tho racecourse area is undergoing a dramatic revitalization. The newly constructed roads are designed to create a cohesive transportation network, easing traffic pressure in the surrounding districts and shaping a modern urban space. The project, approved by the Department of Construction on August 29, 2024, has seen intensive work over the past year.

Workers and heavy machinery have been actively engaged in completing the road foundations, concrete pouring, and asphalt paving. Many sections now feature finished road surfaces, sidewalks, and newly planted trees, presenting a significantly improved and more open appearance. The infrastructure development includes the installation of streetlights, preparing the area for its upcoming operational phase.

Beyond the roadways, the entire Phu Tho racecourse site is being re-envisioned as a multi-functional urban complex. Future plans include a 65,000 square meter green park and a high school, alongside various cultural and sports facilities intended to serve the community. This comprehensive development aims to replace the image of the long-abandoned racecourse with a vibrant new urban center.

Upon completion, these new roads will connect to major thoroughfares like Ly Thuong Kiet, Le Dai Hanh, and 3 Thang 2 Street, areas that often experience heavy traffic. The project promises to enhance the cityscape and provide much-needed modern infrastructure to this central part of Ho Chi Minh City.
