Flávio Bolsonaro Nominated for President by Liberal Party; Milei Attends

The Liberal Party (PL) has officially nominated Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, as its candidate for the presidency. The nomination took place at a convention held at Pacaembu stadium in São Paulo.

Notable attendees included Argentine President Javier Milei, who traveled to Brazil specifically for the event. Also present were Governor Tarcísio de Freitas of São Paulo, PL party president Valdemar Costa Neto, campaign coordinator Senator Rogério Marinho, and numerous other PL congress members and candidates.

In his speech, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, who was previously overlooked by Jair Bolsonaro for the presidential nomination, asserted that Flávio Bolsonaro is not running "because of his surname." He emphasized the importance of family and expressed hope that Flávio would "honor his father and legacy" and become "the greatest president in history." Freitas also criticized the Workers' Party (PT), stating that São Paulo thrives because it has not been governed by the left.

The event began with the national anthem and 22 seconds of silence, interpreted by the master of ceremonies as a tribute to the alleged attempt to silence the right in Brazil. Former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro participated via video message, explaining her absence due to caring for her husband. Her speech focused on the significance of women's participation in politics and the development of PL Mulher, a women's wing of the party.

Michelle Bolsonaro did not directly praise Flávio but wished for divine blessings and strength for his candidacy and family. She stated, "When good men and women unite to do what is right, no difficulty is greater than our courage." Before the convention, Flávio and President Milei were received by Governor Freitas at the Bandeirantes Palace, where Freitas presented Milei with the Order of Ipiranga, the state's highest honor.
