Flávio Bolsonaro says Lula voters also vote for Moraes and vows to end their ‘consortium’

Flávio Bolsonaro turned a September 7 campaign rally on São Paulo’s Avenida Paulista into a direct attack on President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. He told supporters that those who vote for Lula also vote for Moraes, and repeatedly led chants of “Out Lula” and “Out Moraes.”

The remarks followed revelations involving messages between Moraes and Daniel Vorcaro, the former banker of Banco Master. Flávio, the eldest son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, said the political “consortium” between Lula and Moraes would end. He also promised to end political polarization from January onward.

Flávio accused Lula of appointing Supreme Court justices with the purpose of pursuing Jair Bolsonaro and his allies. “Lula appointed two Supreme Court justices with the mission of persecuting Bolsonaro and his allies,” he said from the stage.

The PL presidential candidate also tied a promise of new Supreme Court appointments to Moraes’s departure from the court. “I will appoint five justices to the Supreme Court because Alexandre de Moraes will fall,” he said. He said his nominees would oppose drugs and gender ideology in schools, respect the Constitution, and avoid persecuting political opponents.

Flávio said he wanted to win in the first round and urged supporters to secure victory. Polls cited in the article, however, indicate that a second-round contest between Flávio Bolsonaro and Lula is considered almost certain.
