Flemish Flags Illegally Placed on Kortenberg Roundabout Ahead of Holiday

The Flemish nationalist group TAK Kortenberg has once again placed Flemish flags on a roundabout in Kortenberg, this time for the upcoming July 11th Flemish holiday. The flags were erected on the roundabout at the Leuvensesteenweg, Wijnegemhofstraat, and Zavelstraat intersection in Erps-Kwerps.

Last year, a similar display of Flemish flags on the same roundabout was carried out by Jong N-VA, the youth wing of the New Flemish Alliance party. However, the mayor at the time had the flags removed, citing regulations against placing them on public property.

Undeterred, TAK Kortenberg has now taken over the initiative. They have posted photos of the flags on social media with a message directed at the mayor. "Apparently, the mayor of Kortenberg found it a disgrace that a Flemish lion was visible last year on July 11th," the group stated. "Therefore, the Language Action Committee Kortenberg, and by extension all of Flanders, wishes you a happy Flemish holiday."

The flags are currently still flying on the roundabout. Mayor Alexandra Thienpont (CD&V) has not yet been reached for comment on the latest incident.
