Flensburg narrowly defeats Eisenach in Handball-Bundesliga season opener

SG Flensburg-Handewitt avoided a poor start to their Handball-Bundesliga season by securing a hard-fought 33:31 victory over ThSV Eisenach on the opening day.

The home team found themselves trailing shortly before the end of the match but managed to secure the win in front of their fans. Simon Pytlick was the top scorer for Flensburg with seven goals, while Elias Scholtes and Gian Attenhofer each scored five for the visiting team.

Two new signings immediately impressed for Flensburg: French playmaker Aymeric Minne and Danish line player Emil Bergholt scored four of the team's first six goals. However, Flensburg struggled to pull away from Eisenach, with Attenhofer leveling the score at 8:8 in the 14th minute.

Eisenach, displaying "Kultklub in Blau" on their green jerseys, managed a five-goal run from the 29th to the 34th minute, taking a 21:20 lead. The visitors maintained a strong defense, keeping the game competitive throughout. Flensburg's coach Ales Pajovic brought in goalkeeper Simon Möller, another new addition, who made several key saves after replacing Benjamin Buric.

With six minutes left, Eisenach led 30:28, but Flensburg showed great determination to come back and claim a fortunate opening victory.
