Handball-Bundesliga: ThSV Eisenach Narrowly Loses Opener in Flensburg After Strong Fight

ThSV Eisenach narrowly missed a major upset in their opening match of the new Handball-Bundesliga season, falling 31:33 to SG Flensburg-Handewitt. The team, coached by Sebastian Hinze, held a lead until just five minutes before the final whistle in front of 6,300 spectators.

Eisenach started defensively shaky, quickly falling behind 5:8 in the 10th minute. However, the team stabilized its defense and found offensive rhythm, with Felix Aellen directing play effectively. The second half saw Eisenach surge ahead, taking their first lead of the game at 21:20 after a 3:0 run. They forced a physical contest, disrupting Flensburg's flow and extending their lead to 30:28 with a goal from Vukasin Antonijevic in the 54th minute. Ultimately, the visitors' strength waned in the closing minutes, allowing Flensburg to turn the game around.

Gian Attenhofer and Elias Scholtes were the standout performers for ThSV Eisenach, each scoring five goals. The team demonstrated resilience and a strong fighting spirit throughout the match, pushing one of the league's top teams to the very end.
