Flood washes away 42-km road linking Nuwakot to China border

A vital 42-kilometer road linking Nuwakot to the Rasuwagadhi border crossing with China has been washed away by flooding in the Bhotekoshi River. The Department of Roads confirmed the extensive damage, which occurred at multiple points along the route. Several concrete bridges were also destroyed.

This road, crucial for trade and transport, runs alongside the Bhotekoshi River and has a history of being damaged by floods. Even sections recently upgraded to a two-lane road with a grant from the Chinese government were swept away by the latest deluge. The department has lost contact with supervisors stationed along the road between Syaphrubesi and the border, adding to the uncertainty.

The massive flood entered Rasuwa from the Tibet side, causing widespread destruction in Timure, Syaphrubesi, and Rasuwagadhi. Search and rescue operations are ongoing for several missing individuals. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, with details of a further 16-kilometer stretch towards the border pending.
