Timure devastated by massive flood, residents stranded on hillsides

Timure, a settlement in Nepal's Rasuwa district, has been devastated by a massive flood originating from China. The Bhotekoshi River overflowed its banks, destroying homes and leaving residents stranded on higher ground. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Pema Dorje Ghale, a ward member for Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-2, described the flood's sudden and destructive arrival around 8:30 a.m. "The flood came with a huge sound... Before we could even think about what was happening, everything was devastated. There is nothing left of Timure Bazaar," Ghale stated. He estimated that over 100 houses in Timure alone may have been destroyed.

Survivors, including many children, have taken refuge on hillsides, facing critical shortages of food and clean water. "What will we feed the small children? How will we keep them safe? We have nothing. We are surviving by drinking the floodwater," Ghale said, appealing for urgent assistance.

While helicopters have been observed in the area, rescue teams have not yet reached all stranded residents. Ghale urged government agencies to establish contact and expedite rescue operations. In response, the government has deployed security forces and emergency response teams to conduct search, rescue, and relief efforts in the affected districts.
