Flooding in Niğde Claims One Life, Injures Five

Torrential rains in Niğde, Turkey, triggered flash floods that severely impacted the Gümüşler district, leading to one fatality and five injuries. The downpour caused floodwaters to sweep away Sabiha Dinçer and Fatma T. as they attempted to reach their car. Simultaneously, three other individuals, Rıfat T., Fatma Nehir T., and Tuana T., along with an unidentified person, were trapped inside a vehicle, license plate 34 DFD 145, as it was carried away by the flood.

Emergency teams rescued the six individuals from the floodwaters and transported them to Niğde Ömer Halisdemir Training and Research Hospital. Sabiha Dinçer, whose condition was critical, succumbed to her injuries despite the efforts of medical staff. Fatma T. remains in critical condition, while the other four injured individuals are reported to be stable.

Niğde Governor Nedim Akmeşe visited the affected area to assess the damage. He confirmed that the flooding resulted from heavy rain and hail that began around noon. Akmeşe stated that 39 vehicles, 10 units of heavy machinery, and 216 personnel are engaged in ongoing efforts, including water drainage, cleanup, and damage assessment. He expressed condolences to the family of Sabiha Dinçer and wished a speedy recovery to all affected citizens, urging them to stay clear of riverbeds and areas prone to flooding.
