Flooding Isolates Villages in Vietnam's Bac Ninh Province After Storm No. 4

Severe flooding triggered by heavy rains from storm No. 4 has isolated numerous villages and disrupted transportation in Son Dong commune, Bac Ninh province. Rising water levels have submerged local crossings, cutting off access to several areas. According to a preliminary report from the commune's Civil Defense Command, two specific areas, Khu Chao in Dinh village and Dong Dau/Dong Tan in Va village, are now isolated. These areas encompass 67 households with 268 residents and 107 households with 428 residents, respectively. The floodwaters have also inundated approximately 14 hectares of rice and other crops, along with 11 hectares of fruit trees. In response to the escalating situation, local authorities have initiated evacuation procedures, relocating 14 households comprising 58 individuals to safer locations. Residents have been advised to stockpile essential supplies in anticipation of prolonged isolation. Authorities have established warning signs and deployed personnel to guard submerged crossings, ensuring public safety. Meanwhile, in Yen Dinh commune, water levels in rivers and streams are rising rapidly, threatening to flood sections of National Highway 31 and Provincial Road 291. Military and police forces are on standby to manage traffic and warn motorists at potential flood points. In Tay Yen Tu commune, all 18 local crossings are submerged, with water depths ranging from 0.5 to 1 meter. The provincial Civil Defense Command has issued an alert for the Luc Nam and Thuong rivers due to rising floodwaters, demanding 24-hour readiness from local authorities.
