Florida airport renamed for Trump

Palm Beach Airport in Florida is now officially known as the Donald J. Trump International Airport, a change announced in May. The new call sign is DJT. Eric Trump, son of the former president, celebrated the decision on social media, calling it a "great honor" and expressing pride in the "OFFICIAL logo for the Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach, Florida."

Airports are frequently named after influential figures, both before and after their deaths. Examples include New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, and California's John Wayne Airport. Internationally, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport bear the names of cultural icons. Even airports named after living individuals, like George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Texas and Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport in Madeira, exist, though the latter faced controversy over a bust of the footballer.

However, the renaming of Palm Beach Airport appears to extend beyond mere accolade. In February, DTTM Operations LLC, a holding company for Donald Trump's business trademarks, filed three "intent to use" trademark applications related to airport branding. These applications cover a wide range of goods and services, including watches, jewelry, handbags, travel bags, and even "plastic slippers used in the airport environment when going through security." The filings also extend to airport construction, aircraft repair, and check-in services, indicating a potential business venture for the Trump Organization tied to the airport's new identity.
