FLRC seeks public input on court rules review

The Fiji Law Reform Commission is actively engaging the public and stakeholders in a crucial review of the nation's civil justice system. The commission is calling for written submissions on proposed changes to the High Court Rules of 1988 and the Magistrates’ Court Rules of 1945. This initiative aims to modernize and streamline legal procedures, ensuring they remain efficient and accessible to all users.

The review is being spearheaded by the Civil Rules Reference Committee, under the leadership of retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Alipate Qetaki. The committee, which also includes High Court Judges Justice Senileba Levaci and Justice Mohammed Azhar, is tasked with assessing the current civil procedure framework. Their goal is to recommend reforms that will make the rules more responsive to the evolving needs of litigants, legal practitioners, businesses, government agencies, and the wider community.

Submissions are welcomed from a broad spectrum of society, including legal professionals, government bodies, civil society organizations, businesses, and the general public, underscoring a commitment to a comprehensive and inclusive reform process.
