Fluminense confirms Marcão as permanent coach after interim success

Fluminense has solidified its coaching situation, officially appointing Marco Aurélio de Oliveira, widely known as Marcão, as the head coach for the rest of the season. The decision comes after a successful interim period where Marcão guided the team through a crucial phase, securing victories and a spot in the Copa Libertadores.

Marcão, a trusted figure within the club and a historical member of the coaching staff, stepped in ten days prior following the dismissal of Argentine coach Luis Zubeldía. Zubeldía was let go due to a negative run of results after the World Cup break. Marcão's interim tenure has been marked by a perfect winning streak, including significant wins in the Brazilian league against Palmeiras (3-2) and Remo (2-1), alongside their continental success in reaching the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals.

Club president Mattheus Montenegro confirmed the appointment from the iconic Maracanã stadium. "Fluminense will not go to the market to look for another coach because we have a lot of confidence not only in Marcão but in the entire club's coaching staff. We will go together until the end," Montenegro stated. This decision emphasizes the club's commitment to internal stability and trust in its existing personnel rather than seeking external solutions.

The team currently sits in fourth place in the Brasileirão with 41 points, level with third-placed Athletico Paranaense and seven points behind leaders Palmeiras.
