FM: Egypt backs regional, international efforts to consolidate Somalia’s security, stability

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty declared full support for regional and international initiatives aimed at consolidating Somalia's security and stability. He emphasized Cairo's commitment to bolstering Somali state institutions and safeguarding the country's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Abdelatty highlighted that Somalia's stability is a cornerstone for the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea region, and broader international peace and security. He made these remarks during a meeting on July 31, 2026, with Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, Acting Assistant Secretary General of the UN Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), on the sidelines of an African Union summit in Kampala, Uganda.

The minister underscored the critical importance of securing sustainable funding for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). He expressed significant concern over the financial difficulties facing the mission and urged international partners and UN Security Council members to provide continued support and necessary logistical and financial resources.

Abdelatty also stressed the need to maintain both AUSSOM and UNSOS, ensuring their continuity and adequate funding to help preserve Somalia's security, stability, and unity. He reaffirmed Egypt's willingness to offer continued support to Somalia, both through the AU mission and bilateral cooperation. Egypt plans to leverage its extensive expertise in counterterrorism, border security, and institutional capacity-building to enhance stability within Somalia and the wider region.
