Fokida fire: Heartbreaking images emerge of burnt homes and cars

The fire situation in Fokida, Greece, shows signs of improvement as the strong winds that fueled the blaze have finally subsided. However, the devastation left in its wake is stark, with images revealing the extent of the destruction to homes and vehicles.

Residents endured a challenging night marked by persistent flare-ups. Emergency services, including ground crews and aerial support, remained on-site, making significant efforts to gain control over the fire. The fire has impacted several areas, including the village of Pigi Efpalou, where a warehouse caught fire early Sunday morning.

Evacuations were ordered for several villages, including Klima, Koukoura, and Nea Koukoura, on Saturday afternoon following an alert from the 112 emergency number. Residents were directed to safer locations. A precautionary alert was also issued early Sunday for residents of Magoula to move towards Monastiraki.

Reports indicate that the fire has caused extensive damage to olive groves, pristine forests, houses, storage facilities, and farming equipment. The village of Klima appears to have suffered significant damage, with numerous homes reportedly burnt.
