Foo Fighters deliver hours of rock and roll at Ford Field

The Foo Fighters rocked Ford Field in Detroit for nearly three hours on Thursday night, delivering a high-energy performance filled with their signature hard-charging rock and roll. The band, known for its melodic riffs and powerful vocals, solidified its place in rock history, having been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.

This concert marked the band's debut at Ford Field and represented their largest Detroit show to date, drawing a crowd of over 35,000 fans. The setlist was a parade of hits, with nine of the first ten songs being well-known radio smashes that have defined the band's era. Lead singer Dave Grohl, a seasoned rock survivor, engaged with the audience throughout the night, sharing anecdotes and reflecting on the band's 31-year journey.

Grohl became emotional when a fan presented him with a sign for Jennifer Finch, the late bassist of L7 and a former girlfriend, who recently passed away after battling cancer. He also recounted a story from his early days in Detroit, playing with his first band Scream and sleeping in a van. Grohl shared how a moment of forgetfulness led to leaving their earnings at a gas station, only to find the money still there hours later, fostering a sense of gratitude for Detroit.

The concert featured a blend of looking back and present-day performance, with Grohl, 57, humorously acknowledging his "old school" status. The band members also took turns performing songs from their previous bands, including a nod to keyboardist Rami Jaffee's time with The Wallflowers. Grohl even took the drum kit for a cover, showcasing the band's versatility and camaraderie. Despite some extended song outros and brief interludes, the Foo Fighters largely delivered on their promise of a marathon three-hour show, leaving the massive crowd energized.
