Football: Joel Pohjanpalo Scores in Italy; Finnish Goalkeeper Injured

Finnish forward Joel Pohjanpalo found the net for Palermo in their 2-0 win over Lecce in the Italian Cup on Monday. The 31-year-old striker scored Palermo's second goal late in the first half, securing their progression to the next round of the competition.

Pohjanpalo's goal came after receiving a pass back into the penalty area, which he struck with his right foot past the goalkeeper. He also played a role in Palermo's opening goal, though his initial close-range attempt following a throw-in was saved, the ball luckily ricocheted to Dominic Vavassori, who then scored.

Palermo's goalkeeper, Jesse Joronen, 33, sustained an injury early in the match and had to be substituted. The team is preparing to begin their Serie B season on Sunday at home against Juve Stabia. Monday's cup match was their first official game of the season.

Pohjanpalo is expected to rejoin the Finnish national team, "Huuhkajat," in late September for Nations League matches against San Marino and Belarus. He is considered a key player for the national squad.
