Foreign Minister Wu to Attend Pacific Islands Forum Summit in Palau

Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu is set to lead a delegation to Palau, a diplomatic ally, for a series of high-profile events from August 27 to September 3. The centerpiece of the visit is the 55th Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Summit, where Wu will attend the 30th Taiwan/ROC-PIF Dialogue.

During his stay, Wu will also participate in the "Pacific Prosperity Exhibit," organized by Palau. This exhibition will highlight Taiwan's collaborative achievements with Palau and other Pacific allies, as well as like-minded nations. Key areas of focus include digital resilience, renewable energy, infrastructure development, climate change adaptation, smart healthcare, and social empowerment initiatives that Taiwan has been promoting in the region.

The delegation includes representatives from various industries such as energy, technology, food, construction, and organic agriculture, alongside members from the Asian Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce and the ROC-Taiwan Business Association. Their participation in the "Pacific Prosperity Exhibit" and related exchanges is intended to foster technical collaboration, industrial partnerships, and investment opportunities.

Taiwan's long-standing commitment to the Pacific region is underscored by its support for the PIF's "2050 Blue Pacific Continent Strategy" and its involvement in initiatives like the "Pacific Resilience Fund." Through scholarships, training programs, and technical cooperation, Taiwan aims to enhance regional development resilience and solidify its role as a dedicated "Development Partner."

Wu is also scheduled to meet with Palau's President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. and Vice President Raynold B. Oilouch. The itinerary includes visits to Palau's National Hospital and projects under the "Taiwan-Palau Cooperation Plan" to assess progress and explore future collaboration. The minister will also engage in sideline discussions with other national delegations on strengthening Taiwan's partnerships with Pacific island nations and jointly maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
