Forest fire in Manisa, Turkey, spreads rapidly; extensive firefighting efforts underway

A forest fire broke out in the Seyitali neighborhood of Kula, Manisa, Turkey, on Sunday afternoon, quickly spreading from agricultural fields to nearby forested areas. Firefighting operations are currently underway to contain the blaze.

Initial response efforts included 2 aircraft, 3 helicopters, 11 fire engines, and 1 bulldozer from the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry. Reinforcements of air and ground crews have since been deployed to bolster the containment efforts. The Manisa Governorship announced via social media that the number of aircraft involved in the aerial response has been increased to 16.

According to a statement from the Governorship, the fire, which started around 4:00 PM local time, is being managed with swift interventions under the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Governorship's Fire Risk Reduction units. The operation now involves 16 aircraft, 49 firefighting teams, 7 dozers and excavators, 14 security teams, 1 AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) team, 1 health team, Fire Risk Reduction Plan teams, and volunteers, totaling 309 personnel.

Necessary security precautions have been implemented in the affected area, and the developments are being closely monitored by the Governorship's Crisis Center. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
