Forest Fire Rages Near Plauen; Firefighters Battle Flames on Foot

Firefighters are engaged in a difficult battle against a forest fire near Plauen in the Vogtland district of Saxony, Germany. The blaze, which ignited on Tuesday evening, has consumed approximately four hectares of woodland close to the town. This area is roughly equivalent to five and a half standard football fields.

Access to the affected area is severely restricted for fire engines, forcing firefighters to approach the flames on foot. They are continuously extending their hoses to reach the fire's edge. As of the latest reports, there is no clear end in sight for the firefighting operations.

Authorities have closed sections of the nearby Bundesstraße 173 due to the fire. The city has also issued a public health advisory, urging residents within a two-kilometer radius to keep their windows and doors shut to prevent smoke from entering their homes. The smoke plume is a significant concern for the local population.
