'Forever Young': Musical Homage to Glen Hansard Unites Thousands and Numerous Artists

Thousands of people, including numerous stars, gathered in Dublin on Tuesday for the funeral of acclaimed Irish musician Glen Hansard. Hansard, who died in a motorcycle accident on July 29 at the age of 56, was remembered at a service held at Saint Patrick's Cathedral. The wicker coffin of Glen Hansard, adorned with wildflowers, was carried into the cathedral amid applause from the assembled public. The commemoration was also streamed live on YouTube, attracting over 40,000 viewers. The event served as a final musical tribute to the beloved artist. Inside the cathedral, Bono, the lead singer of U2, performed a spoken version of the band's hit "Beautiful Day" and played a voice message from Patti Smith, who sang a lullaby for Hansard. Other notable musicians who paid tribute included Irish singers Hozier, Imelda May, Jerry Fish, and Damien Dempsey. Eddie Vedder and Markéta Irglová, his co-star from the film "Once" and former partner, also performed and spoke on stage alongside Hansard's brothers. The homage concluded with a collective rendition of Bob Dylan's "Forever Young," featuring all the artists present. A video of this performance has since garnered over 60,000 views on the social media platform X. Many attendees expressed their deep emotion. Paul McCann described Hansard as a "great human being," praising his music for conveying "a lot of wisdom and conviction."
