Former Australia all-rounder Henriques to captain Portugal in WC qualifying

Moises Henriques, a former Australian all-rounder, is set to captain Portugal in their upcoming campaign to qualify for the T20 World Cup. Cricket Portugal announced on Instagram that the 39-year-old, who represented Australia in four tests, 16 ODIs, and 24 T20s, will lead a 14-man squad.

Henriques, born in Madeira, the same Portuguese island as football star Cristiano Ronaldo, retired from Australian domestic cricket last year. His inclusion marks a significant move for Portuguese cricket as they aim for their first World Cup appearance.

The T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier C will take place in Finland from August 14-20. Portugal is placed in Group B alongside Israel, Germany, Greece, and the Czech Republic. The winner of this group will proceed to a final, with the ultimate victors earning a spot in the European regional final.
