Swiatek cruises past Shnaider to reach Canadian Open semi-finals

World number one Iga Swiatek delivered a commanding performance to reach the Canadian Open semi-finals, brushing aside Russian qualifier Diana Shnaider 6-2, 6-1 in Toronto. The dominant display serves as a significant confidence booster for the Polish star as she prepares for the final Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows.

Swiatek, a three-time Grand Slam champion, was in complete control throughout the 68-minute match. She combined sharp groundstrokes with excellent court coverage to overwhelm her opponent. The former world number one broke Shnaider's serve twice in the opening set, capitalizing on a series of unforced errors from the Russian. Swiatek secured the first set when Shnaider sent a forehand wide.

Shnaider found little respite in the second set as the seventh seed Swiatek continued to dictate play from the baseline, never facing a break point. Swiatek sealed her victory with a sharply angled crosscourt winner that clipped the line, securing a 5-1 lead before closing out the match on Shnaider's unforced error on match point.

This marks Swiatek's first WTA 1000 semi-final appearance of an inconsistent season. She has struggled to advance beyond the quarterfinals in Grand Slams this year and suffered an early exit in Miami. The win in Toronto sets up a potential clash with either Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova or Ukraine's Elina Svitolina in the semi-finals.
