Former Deputy Attorney General Threatened with Forced Arrest Over Money Laundering Probe

Prosecutors in Indonesia have issued a stern warning to former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, threatening to forcibly bring him in for questioning if he fails to appear again. Adriansyah is under investigation for alleged money laundering.

Rudi Margono, the Junior Attorney General for Supervision, stated that Adriansyah had missed his initial summons. A new summons was issued for Friday, July 24, with prosecutors indicating they would use legal measures, including forced apprehension as per Article 28 of the Criminal Procedure Code, if he remains absent.

The Attorney General's Office confirmed that a new investigation order specifically for the alleged money laundering case was issued on July 20, following the receipt of evidence including 74 kg of gold and foreign currency valued at hundreds of billions of rupiah. This evidence was reportedly handed over by the National Police's Directorate of Corruption Crimes.

Initially, four individuals, including Adriansyah, were summoned for questioning on Wednesday, July 22. However, Adriansyah cited health reasons for his absence, while another individual, NH, did not show up without prior notice. Prosecutors stated they would issue a new summons for both.

If indeed he does not attend, according to Article 28 of the Criminal Procedure Code, investigators with the assistance of authorized officials can bring him in by force.
