Former Fubon Guardians Pitcher Joins Chinese Baseball League with Japan Ambitions

Former Fubon Guardians pitcher Isaki Ninomiya is embarking on a new chapter in his career, joining the Xiamen Dolphins in China's newly formed Chinese Baseball League (CBL). The Japanese pitcher, who previously played in Taiwan's CPBL, sees this move as a crucial step towards his ultimate goal of playing professional baseball in Japan.

In a recent interview with Japanese media outlet "Chunichi Sports," the 27-year-old Ninomiya explained his decision. "My goal is to become a professional baseball player in Japan. Playing in China, I believe, is an important challenge to achieve that dream," he stated. Ninomiya hopes to focus on delivering results, contributing to his team's victories, and achieving significant personal growth during the season.

Ninomiya spent time with the Fubon Guardians' minor league team, appearing in nine games with a record of 1-2 and an ERA of 5.68. While he never reached the top-tier CPBL team, he accumulated 31.2 innings pitched, striking out 28 batters. He expressed gratitude to those who have supported his move to China and pledged to give his best effort to repay their support with his performance.

The CBL's Summer League is set to commence on August 13th, featuring six teams: Xiamen Dolphins, Shenzhen Sox, Fuzhou Haixia, Changsha Wawa, Shanghai Sharks, and Beijing Dragons. Each team will play 15 regular-season games, with the top four advancing to the postseason. The championship series will be a best-of-three format.
