CPBL: Arietta Dominates Again, Creating 'Sweet Dilemma' for Rakuten Manager

Rakuten Monkeys foreign pitcher Jake Arietta is showcasing a strong resurgence, dominating the opposition in his recent starts. On August 7, Arietta pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out four batters. He threw 96 pitches, with an impressive 74% strike rate, and conceded only one unearned run to secure his third win of the season and the game's MVP award.

This performance extends his streak of not allowing an earned run to 16 consecutive innings. Rakuten manager Tseng Hao-chu noted that Arietta has corrected his previous issues with control of his "decisive" pitches and has improved his "weapon" pitches in the second half of the season. The coaching staff has recognized his positive development.

The Rakuten Monkeys are currently operating with a foreign player configuration of two pitchers, Jake Arietta and Dylan Cease, and one foreign hitter, Greg Bird. However, Arietta's recent strong form has created a "sweet dilemma" for the team's management as they deliberate their foreign player strategy for the remainder of the season. The team also has another foreign hitter, David Saint, waiting in the minor league system.

Despite Arietta's struggles earlier in the season, where he had a 2-8 record in 16 starts with a 3.69 ERA, his recent performances have been a significant turnaround. The manager confirmed that there would be no changes to the foreign player lineup for the next game, following the original plan.
