Former KBS Announcer Kim Sun-geun Admits to 'Arrogance,' Reveals Laundry Delivery Job After Leaving Public Broadcaster

Former KBS announcer Kim Sun-geun shared the harsh realities he faced after leaving the public broadcaster to pursue a freelance career. Appearing on the YouTube show 'Jjanhan Hyung Shin Dong-yeop,' Kim confessed to having an inflated sense of his own potential, believing he could achieve the same success as other popular announcers.

I was very arrogant. 'Hey! What's wrong with me becoming Jeon Hyun-moo!' That's how I got here. I was so full of myself back then.

His transition was marked by significant financial strain. Kim explained that he had taken out substantial loans while at KBS, which he then invested and lost. Simultaneously, he secured an apartment through a lottery, creating immense financial pressure. He described the struggle to maintain housing for his family, even relocating to Paju, outside Seoul, to afford a better home.

KBS announcers get loans easily. I took out a lot of loans. I invested, and that investment completely failed. Then, at the same time, I got an apartment lottery. All the financial pressure came at once.

Kim expressed disappointment when promised broadcast opportunities failed to materialize after his departure from KBS. He recounted taking on various part-time jobs to make ends meet, including delivery services and even participating in new drug trials. He specifically mentioned delivering laundry in the early mornings to accommodate potential broadcasting schedules, highlighting the difficult circumstances he endured.

I wanted to protect this house. It wasn't even in Seoul, it was in Paju. I wanted my wife and children to live in a nice house. I thought I would do well if I left (KBS). They said they would give me broadcast appearances, so I left, but I realized the harsh reality. Promises are just promises. None of the promises came true.
