Former Kinmen Official Huang Shih-cheng Launches Council Bid, Eyes Economic Diversification

Huang Shih-cheng, a former secretary to Kinmen County Magistrate Chen Fu-hai, has officially launched his campaign office for the upcoming Kinmen County councilor election in the first constituency. The establishment of the service center was attended by numerous friends and business associates from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, signaling strong support for his candidacy.

Huang, who previously served as executive director of the county government's Mainland Affairs Office, highlighted his vision for Kinmen's development. He stressed that the island's progress cannot solely rely on its well-known sorghum liquor industry. "We need to expand the industrial chain," Huang stated, emphasizing the importance of diversifying the local economy.

Supporters at the event rallied behind Huang, chanting slogans like "Find Shih-cheng, good things happen." Huang outlined four main pillars for his platform: "Youth participation, vibrant Kinmen; economic development, job creation; local care, support for fellow villagers; and cross-strait cooperation, creating the future together."

We need to have more businesses come to Kinmen; if Taiwanese businesses can come to Kinmen to see and invest, taking advantage of the geographical convenience, then Kinmen's young people will have employment opportunities, and the young population staying in Kinmen will increase, leading to good development.

He specifically addressed the issue of young talent leaving Kinmen due to limited opportunities. Huang believes that attracting Taiwanese businesses to invest in Kinmen, leveraging its geographical advantages, would create much-needed employment for the island's youth, thereby encouraging them to remain. He envisions developing industries beyond tourism and the liquor sector to foster broader economic growth.
