Former KMT Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung reappears after fall, recalls past support for charity

Eighty-eight-year-old former Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung made his first public appearance since a fall last week, attending a charity event in Taipei. Wu, who appeared healthy, stated he had a follow-up doctor's appointment that morning and assured everyone he was fine.

The event was hosted by the Shi Fang Enlightenment Center, where Wu met with entertainer Hu Gua and former residents of the center. Hu Gua, who has been involved with the charity for many years, recalled the center's difficult beginnings 40 years ago in a rudimentary facility. He explained how he had sought government assistance for a new building and received support from Wu, who was then the Minister of the Interior.

From young I watched Hu Gua's programs, and most importantly, his character. For many years he has run around for Shi Fang and charity events. As long as I am alive, if there are charity activities that need me, just 'command' me and I will not shirk.

Wu Poh-hsiung expressed his admiration for Hu Gua's dedication to charitable work over the decades. He humorously noted that he grew up watching Hu Gua's television programs and praised his character and commitment to the Shi Fang Center. Wu pledged his full support for any future charity activities initiated by Hu Gua, stating he would readily assist as long as he was able.

In response, Hu Gua expressed his gratitude and emotion, mentioning that Wu's wife is also actively involved with the House of Sharing Foundation. Hu Gua also promoted his upcoming charity concert, noting that 90% of tickets were sold and encouraging public support to help reach the fundraising goal.
