Former MACC chief Azam Baki files defamation suit against businessman Albert Tei

Former Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Azam Baki, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against businessman Albert Tei. The legal action was filed at the High Court in Shah Alam, Selangor, through the law firm Tetuan Zain Megat & Murad.

The lawsuit targets statements published and republished by Tei, which Azam Baki alleges are false and defamatory. These statements were reportedly disseminated through various online channels, including podcasts and YouTube.

Azam Baki is seeking a permanent injunction and damages, which will be determined by the court. His legal team stated that their client asserts the allegations are baseless and untrue, emphasizing that the proceedings are aimed at defending his reputation, built over nearly four decades of public service.

The legal firm indicated they would not comment further on the case, which is now before the court, and requested that all parties respect the legal process. This action follows previous statements made by Albert Tei concerning Azam Baki regarding ongoing disputes and investigations. Tei had previously claimed to be a victim of intimidation after attempting to expose corruption scandals involving politicians in Sabah.
