Former NFL Player Daniel Adongo Deported by ICE for Visa Violations and Other Offenses

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported Daniel Adongo, a former Kenyan National Football League (NFL) player, for allegedly overstaying his visa and committing other offenses. Adongo, who played as a linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts from 2013, remained in the United States after his visa expired in 2016, according to ICE.

Adongo's NFL career was cut short in 2015. ICE stated that Adongo posed a significant threat to the community, citing past arrests for offenses including aggravated intimidation, assault, and public disturbance. He was convicted of property damage in 2020 and sentenced to 364 days in jail.

A judge ordered Adongo's removal in March 2026, with the deportation carried out in June. Douglas Thompson, deputy field office director for ICE in Chicago, declared, "This dangerous individual clearly represented a threat to the community, which is now safer since his deportation."

Before his deportation, Adongo spent several months in federal custody. His family and social workers have linked his conduct to injuries sustained during his football career. Adongo was the first Kenyan athlete to play American football in the U.S., having previously played rugby.
