Former Quang Tri Deputy Chairman jailed 5 years for land fraud

A former Deputy Chairman of the Huong Hoa District People's Committee in Quang Tri province, Le Quang Thuan, has been sentenced to five years in prison for land-related corruption. The People's Court of Quang Tri province handed down the sentence on July 31 following a trial that also implicated 11 of his former subordinates.

The charges stemmed from serious violations in state land management within the district. Prosecutors detailed how the officials mishandled land origin confirmations, land allocation, land use rights certificates, land recovery, and related administrative procedures. These actions resulted in significant damage to the state.

Le Quang Thuan, along with Vương Viết Thắng and Dương Phúc Hiếu, former officials from the District Department of Natural Resources and Environment, received five-year sentences for abusing their authority. Trần Nhật Hoàng, former director of the District Land Registration Office, received a 3-year and 6-month sentence for two charges.

Other defendants received sentences ranging from 18 months of non-custodial reform to three years of suspended sentences. The court determined that the violations caused state losses exceeding 9 billion VND (approximately $350,000 USD).
