Former Rangamati council chairman, Awami League leader arrested

Police have arrested Brishaketu Chakma, former chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council, and Md Gias Uddin, General Secretary of the Baghaichhari upazila Awami League. The arrests are linked to a case filed as part of the "Operation Devil Hunt" crackdown.

Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Jashim Uddin confirmed the arrests, stating they occurred around noon near the court building in Rangamati town. Both Chakma and Uddin had arrived at the court to surrender in connection with a case filed in Baghaichhari upazila.

Brishaketu Chakma previously served as the chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council from 2015 to 2020. He also holds positions as the vice-president of the Rangamati district Awami League and the president of the Baghaichhari upazila Awami League. The "Operation Devil Hunt" is a law enforcement initiative aimed at addressing specific security concerns in the region.
