Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix sees 60 pit stops and diverse strategies in final Zandvoort race

Lando Norris of McLaren claimed victory in the final Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, a race marked by tactical intrigue and a remarkable 60 pit stops. The event's conclusion at this circuit, as it departs the F1 calendar, saw a dramatic start with Max Verstappen crashing out on the first lap, though he thankfully escaped injury. Norris, who started on medium tires and switched to soft during a red flag period, managed his strategy effectively through two further stops on hard tires to secure the win.

Behind Norris, Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli secured second place, with his teammate George Russell finishing third. Both drivers employed similar strategies, starting on mediums and transitioning to hard tires. Russell benefited from a virtual safety car in the closing laps, which helped him fend off challenges from Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari duo showed strong pace throughout the race but faced various circumstances that hampered their efforts to fully capitalize on their speed.

The race's tactical depth was highlighted by the diverse strategies employed, with all top ten drivers utilizing different approaches. Pirelli Motorsport Director Dario Marrafuschi noted that the red flag and subsequent tire choices led to nearly ten different strategies, making the Grand Prix exceptionally interesting from a tactical perspective. The challenging track conditions, with rain having ceased shortly before the start, and the subsequent tire selections played a crucial role in shaping the race's unpredictable nature.
