Fórsa union members vote to accept Oberstown agreement, pause industrial action

Members of the Fórsa trade union employed at the Oberstown Children Detention Campus in Dublin are set to halt their industrial action following a vote to accept proposals aimed at resolving a dispute over staffing levels.

Agreement on the proposals was reached yesterday after discussions facilitated by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC). The terms were subsequently put to a ballot of Fórsa members at the campus, who overwhelmingly voted in favour of acceptance.

Following the successful talks, Fórsa indicated that a clear pathway has been established to address the outstanding issues that led to the dispute. Members of the union had previously staged a 12-hour strike on Tuesday and were planning a more extensive 48-hour strike commencing Monday.

Fórsa acknowledged the constructive role played by the Department of Children, Disability and Equality, alongside the WRC, in mediating the discussions. Oberstown management stated that the center has been proactively working to enhance staffing levels over the past year and welcomed the progress made at the WRC.
