Forward editor-in-chief out just months after taking post

Alyssa Katz, who took the helm of the storied Jewish newspaper The Forward in January, has left her position as editor-in-chief after less than nine months. Her departure was noted as of Friday, with her author page on the publication's website now referring to her role in the past tense.

Katz, an award-winning journalist with previous editorial experience at outlets like The City, the New York Daily News, and The Village Voice, had expressed enthusiasm about joining The Forward at a "critical moment" in December. During her tenure, she authored a column titled "Looking Forward," which explored various topics including Jewish affairs amidst political turmoil, a Holocaust survivors' Purim party, and historical contributions to antisemitism.

When reached for comment regarding her departure, Katz referred inquiries to The Forward's public relations team. As of the report, neither Katz nor the newspaper had provided public statements about the circumstances of her exit. The Forward's publisher, Rachel Fishman Feddersen, also did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
