Forward Iceland Movement Holds Meetings in Kópavogur and Akureyri

The "Áfram Ísland" (Forward Iceland) movement is hosting public meetings today in both the capital region and Akureyri. These gatherings are open to all and focus on the upcoming national referendum scheduled for August 29, where Icelanders will vote on their future.

The meeting in the capital region will take place at the restaurant Brasa in Turninn, Smáratorg, Kópavogur. Speakers there include lawyer Ingvar Smári Birgisson, investment manager Guðlaugur Steinarr Gíslason, and business owner María Lena H. Olsen. The session will be moderated by Líf Magneudóttir, a city councilor for the Left-Greens.

Simultaneously, a meeting will be held in Akureyri at the Hof cultural center. The speakers for this event are Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, chairwoman of the Efling labor union; Steingrímur J. Sigfússon, a long-serving former member of parliament, minister, and Speaker of the Althingi; and Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, former President of Iceland, as well as a former MP and minister. Ásthildur Sturludóttir, former mayor of Akureyri, will moderate this session.

"Áfram Ísland" describes itself as a platform for individuals who choose an Icelandic future on their own terms. The movement's stated goal is to engage the public in discussions leading up to the crucial referendum, emphasizing self-determination for Iceland.
