Four Arrested After Posing as Police to Rob Elderly Woman

Four young men from Bilzen-Hoeselt have been arrested in Geleen after impersonating police officers to rob a 72-year-old woman in Maastricht of her money and jewelry. The incident occurred on Saturday evening.

The suspects approached the victim, convincing her they were police officers investigating a wave of burglaries in the area. They used the real names of active police officers to gain her trust. The fake officers then offered to photograph her valuables as potential evidence in case of theft, subsequently taking the items with them.

The victim managed to note the license plate of the car the suspects used and provided a detailed description. This information, combined with a swift police response, led to the apprehension of the four individuals – two 18-year-old men and a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old boy – in Geleen the same evening. The vehicle was searched and confiscated, and the stolen jewelry and cash were recovered.
