Four-Car Pile-Up on A61 Leaves One Injured

A minor traffic accident on the A61 highway in Rhineland-Palatinate resulted in one driver sustaining minor injuries and significant property damage. The incident involved a four-car pile-up near Westhofen in the Alzey-Worms district.

The chain reaction began when a 62-year-old driver was forced to brake suddenly due to traffic congestion. A following motorist, failing to maintain a safe distance, collided with the rear of the 62-year-old's vehicle. Subsequently, two more vehicles, also following too closely, crashed into the cars ahead of them.

All four vehicles involved in the accident were rendered inoperable and required towing from the scene. The police have estimated the total property damage resulting from the collision to be around 23,500 euros. The incident highlights the dangers of tailgating and the importance of maintaining adequate safety margins on highways.
