Four Celebrities Among Six Killed in Brazil Helicopter Collision

A tragic mid-air collision involving two helicopters over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, June 14, claimed the lives of six people, including four notable celebrities and both pilots. The accident occurred around 8:59 a.m. in the Recreo dos Bandeirantes neighborhood in western Rio.

The deceased celebrities have been identified as 32-year-old American singer, songwriter, and producer Oliver Tree Nickell, known for hits like "Life Goes On"; 23-year-old Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim Díaz, popularly known as "Gaspi," famous for his street interviews and eccentric humor; Brazilian music producer Lucas Brito Chaves, also known as Lucas Frota; and Argentine audiovisual director Lucas Vignale, who had collaborated with artists like Bizarrap and Nicki Nicole.

One of the helicopters crashed into a private parking lot, igniting a fire that destroyed approximately 20 electric cars. Rescue teams located five bodies in the wreckage of the first aircraft and the sixth victim in the second helicopter, which landed about 100 meters away. The pilots were identified as Alexandre Souza, who was operating the helicopter carrying the celebrities, and Charles Marsillac, who was piloting the other aircraft alone. According to Rio de Janeiro's mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, both pilots were highly experienced aviation instructors.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the Brazilian Air Force's Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa). Oliver Tree had been on an international tour in Brazil and was scheduled to continue his European tour in July. Gaspi was known for his viral content and had recently joined the streaming team Blender for a series. The investigation aims to determine the factors that led to this devastating aerial accident.
