Four cops arrested for alleged involvement in prisoner's escape in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi police have arrested four officers in connection with the escape of a prisoner, Hammad, who was being transported from court back to Jhelum Jail. The incident occurred in the Mandra area.

According to a police statement, Assistant Sub-Inspector Tauqeer Hussain, Head Constable Mahboob Khan, and Constable Qasim were apprehended on the orders of Rawalpindi City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera. Police allege that the arrested officers, along with Hammad's accomplices, planned to transfer him into a private vehicle.

When Mandra police attempted to stop the suspects, Hammad and his associates reportedly opened fire. While Hammad managed to escape, one accomplice, identified as Danial, was arrested with a Kalashnikov rifle in his possession. The police van used for the transfer was also taken into custody.

Gujjar Khan Sub-Divisional Police Officer Syed Danyial Hassan provided further details, stating that the officials accompanying Hammad had instructed the van driver to stop at a hotel. The driver, sensing something amiss, alerted Mandra police. Upon the arrival of Mandra Station House Officer Syed Zakaul Hassan, Hammad's accomplices allegedly forced him into a private car and engaged in a shootout with the police.

A case has been registered at the Mandra police station, invoking multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including attempt to murder and obstructing public servants. Sections related to police misconduct and the Anti-Terrorism Act were also included. Search operations are currently underway to apprehend Hammad.
