Four dead and dozens injured after massive Russian strikes across Ukraine

At least four people died and dozens were injured in Ukraine following a significant Russian overnight assault. The attacks struck cities including Dnipro, Kyiv, and Kharkiv, with local officials reporting casualties in the early hours of Tuesday.

In Dnipro, a 73-year-old woman was among the four fatalities. Kyiv experienced thousands seeking shelter as large smoke plumes rose from the city center. Air raid warnings were active across most of Ukraine. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to remain in shelters, reporting that two high-rise apartment buildings had been struck and that fears remained for individuals trapped beneath the debris.

Throughout the early morning, the sounds of drones and more than a dozen explosions could be heard in Kyiv as strikes hit their targets. Blackouts and fires were also reported across the capital, though the full extent of the damage remains unclear. An industrial facility in Zaporizhzhia was also targeted.

The attacks followed a warning from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday about a potential large-scale Russian strike. He urged residents to pay close attention to air raid alerts, stating, "Intelligence warnings regarding Russian strikes remain in effect. A massive strike is possible, they have prepared one." Last week, Russia had indicated it would target military and decision-making centers in Kyiv, advising foreigners to leave the city.
