Four Injured in Mechelen Altercation After Man Fires Shot in Air

A chaotic scene unfolded in Mechelen, Belgium, around 2 a.m. when a 38-year-old man fired a shot into the air during a confrontation. The incident, which occurred in the Goudenregenstraat, left four people injured.

According to police spokesperson Dirk Van de Sande, a group of four individuals, two men and two women, all in their late thirties, were approached by the suspect. The man then discharged at least one round into the sky. A scuffle ensued, during which the group managed to overpower and restrain the suspect until law enforcement arrived.

During the altercation, four people sustained injuries. One woman suffered a head wound and required hospitalization, though the injury was not from a gunshot. The other three individuals sustained minor injuries.

The 38-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to the police station for further questioning. The exact circumstances and the motive behind the incident remain unclear, and the local police investigation unit has launched a probe. Authorities are also working to determine if more than one shot was fired.
